Walls with external corners need angle beads fixed in place before any plastering is done. This is to ensure a superior finish that can make or mar the outcome of any building project. Every little detail counts, be it sharp lines and beautiful edges, or the colour of the paint. That’s where Plastering range of products come in.
Plastering can be done first when your walls have no external corners. After that, it is simple to fix the angle bead.
Skim Bead or thin coat beads are meant for skimming only and fixed at corners using nails or finish plaster. When applying only skim coat, the wall and corner, both have to be flat, so the skim bead can be pushed tightly on to the corner and secured without the need for checking straightness.
Angle beads: these are meant for walls that require both a backing coat and a skim coat. The bead should be securely fixed to the corner with nails or plaster. The edge of the bead should be straight and quite close to the wall – this is essential as you will need to plaster up to this edge. As you are always working to this edge, it decides the thickness of the entire wall, therefore, you need to ensure that you do not need to apply to great a thickness of plaster to the wall.
Edge of bead dictates the thickness of plaster that you have to apply to the wall. The backing coat shall then be applied flush to this edge of the angle bead.
