How to Choose Your Flooring?
Remodeling your home can be an exciting endeavour, but it can also be daunting at times. Whether you’re picking out carpet, searching for the perfect colour of paint or picking out a new kitchen sink, you have a lot of decisions to make. Laminate flooring is popular because it looks just like wood, tile or stone, but is cheaper, easier to maintain and longer-lasting. And it’s a great way to express your personal taste. Shop our array of laminate flooring colours from tan and brown to white and grey, or go for the textured look of terra cotta or travertine. In the same regard, choosing the right laminate flooring for your home should not be taken lightly either. The right flooring will not only help define the decor of your home but also determine the quality and lifespan of your flooring.
There are many factors to weigh when shopping for laminate flooring, including the price and the colours/textures of the flooring in question. Two key terms you should also know are Thickness and AC Rating.
Laminate tiles typically measure at 7, 8, 10 or 12 millimetres thick. The thicker the tile, the quieter they will be. Thick tiles are also less likely to bend or warp, important as this is often one of the key reasons laminate floors wear out.
The AC rating refers to the durability of the laminate, or how much foot traffic it can withstand before it begins to dent and scratch. AC is measured on a scale of 1 to 5. Lower ratings are suitable for areas of low foot traffic. Areas of the home that see a large amount of foot traffic, such as the foyer, den and particularly the kitchen should have an AC rating of at least 3.
You should also consider how long your flooring will be covered under warranty. This often provides a good estimate for the lifespan of the laminate.
