More Info On Roof Tiles

Traditionally, roof tiles were created to keep out rain and were made from locally sourced materials like slate and terracotta. Today, you can find tiles made from concrete, clay, and plastic. Although tiles are still mainly used for weatherproofing, they also add a decorative element to the building.

How Do Roof Tiles Work?

Concrete roof tiles, slate roof tiles, and low pitch roof tiles are all hung from the roof in overlapping parallel rows that prevent water from entering underneath the roof and into the building.

Builders throughout the centuries have used tiles as barriers to keep water from leaking indoors and causing damage to the roof structure and the room. Roof tiles have evolved over the ages, both in material and shape, but continue to be one of the easiest ways to safeguard a building against harsh rain, wind, snow, and ice.

Roof tile shapes range from flat to plain clay, Roman, pantiles, curved, interlocking, and antefixes. Each shape (a.k.a. profile) has a practical use and functionality, as well as gives the home or building a distinct decorative look.
