Roofing membranes provide extra interior insulation for commercial buildings, though more and more residential buildings use it too.
Rubber roofing membranes are among the most common types of flat roof membranes, these include EPDM or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. PVC or polyvinyl chloride and modified bitumen are also used. Roofing membranes create one continuous seal by fitting pieces together. Gravel and asphalt make sturdy membranes, but their seals might leak. Rubber roofing membranes have more challenging body pieces and seams.
Although modified bitumen membranes are still used most owners are moving away from asphalt-based products due to environmental and health hazards. EPPM roofing membranes also come in several different widths to best fit the space.
