The Thompson's Company began with a single product, Thompson's WaterSeal Clear Multi-Surface Waterproofer, for protecting buildings from exterior water damage in the 1920s. The formula, created by Edward Addis Thompson, a polymer chemist and founder of The Thompson's Company, quickly became popular amongst architectural and construction firms.
In 1982, as the deck-building trend grew, Thompson saw the growing need for products for homeowners. The company expanded its distribution and product line to accommodate a new market and provide consumers with quality waterproofing products.
Over time, Thompson's has expanded its brand line to include cleaners, waterproofing products for various surfaces, wood stains and sealers, and convenient aerosol products for small projects.

Thompson's WaterSeal Waterproofer Plus has a Clear Wood Protector, Tinted Wood Stain, Semi-Transparent Wood Stain, and the Cedar Wood Protector. Thompson's WaterSeal Total All-In-One Stain + Sealer comes in Toner, Semi-Transparent, and Solid.
